Friday, April 17, Yakima Indivisible held the first in a series of “Drink it In” presentations designed to be held at local watering holes. Jeff Shaw of Bellingham Jiu-Jitsu and Western Washington University gave a presentation on the history of Combat Sports in America to more than 30 people. His energetic presentation showed the importance of martial arts over the last 126 years in the US, and provided a broader and more accurate portrayal than has generally been accepted.
Yakima Indivisible is hosting “Drink It In” events featuring a wide range of topics. The intent is to grow understanding of our community, ourselves, and each other by providing interesting and verifiable information so attendees can cut through the disinformation that too often dominates public discourse today.
Jeff Shaw set a high bar in discussing the history of martial arts, including how this sport has been co-opted for financial and political gains. His passion and commitment are commendable.
