Just a week until the Yakima Board of County Commissioners votes on the solar ordinance (woohoo!). After nearly three years with a solar moratorium in place, Yakima County is now considering an exciting new ordinance that would make solar projects possible on agricultural land—including innovative agrivoltaics approaches where solar panels and farming happen in the same spot. This ordinance is a win for our farmers, our economy, and our power grid—and you can help push it forward! On February 10, county commissioners will put the ordinance to a vote, and they need to hear directly from residents who support it.
Our friends at Greenlight America are collaborating with 350 Yakima to provide the following ways you can take action to help support lifting the solar moratorium:
1. Solar Power Hour
Please mark your calendars for Friday, Feb 6th, from 4:00–5:00 PM (PT) for a virtual Solar Power Hour ahead of the solar ordinance hearing on 2/10. The purpose of this power hour is to provide an overview of the ordinance, what’s at stake in the vote, and why supporters are urging the Board of County Commissioners to vote YES. The power hour will also cover the basics of giving public comment and include time to begin developing and practicing testimony in preparation for the hearing. This is especially useful for those planning to attend or testify on Tuesday, Feb 10, at 10 am, and all are encouraged to share with their networks.
Register for the Power Hour! Zoom registration (required)
