Yakima Indivisible committees have been working since April on different projects like Constitutional amendment education and hosting a community forum with a former presidential appointee.
Yakima Indivisible recently hosted the former director of the Washington state USDA-RD (United States Department of Agriculture-Rural Development division) at a community forum on June 25th.
The event drew about fifty people and was well-received, according to event coordinator Christina Serabia. As anyone involved with municipal government in eastern Washington knows, RD low-interest loans are crucial to infrastructure like city water systems and farms and ranches.
Y-I was able to pull off the event on a shoestring budget, thanks to leveraging their connections. Roots (the venue where the event was held) agreed to donate part of the room fee, and the speaker, Helen Price Hunt, was the former boss and friend of one of the DCI committee members and generously offered to speak at the event for free.
“Our volunteers are no slouches,” Serabia said. “We have retired and working professionals that care deeply about what they’re doing, and they’re willing to bring their skills and experience to the table.”
